No. 09 — Reduce file size

Compress an image to 20 KB

Many exam and application forms want your photo or scanned signature in a file of 20 KB or less. It’s a tiny limit, but you can hit it here in seconds.

How to use it

  1. Choose the photo or the image of your signature.
  2. Leave 20 in “Max file size (KB)”.
  3. Download the file and upload it to the form.

What to expect at 20 KB

A full phone photo can’t fit in 20 KB without shrinking, so we reduce its dimensions until it reaches that size while staying sharp. For an ID photo or a signature that’s plenty. If the form also requires exact pixel dimensions, set them first with resize image.

Questions and answers

How do I prepare my signature?

Sign with dark ink on white paper, take a photo in good light and trim it with crop image before reducing it here.

What if I need 10 to 20 KB?

Leave 20 as the maximum: we look for the best quality under 20 KB, so the file will end up close to that limit.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your photos never leave your device and nobody else can see them.
